Caregivers New Permanent Residency Pathway

Back to articles

What is changing?

Great news for caregivers! Canada introduced new pilot programs offering a Permanent Residency upon arrival pathway. This means successful applicants will get permanent resident status as soon as they land in Canada, unlike previous caregiver programs.

Key Points:

Eligibility:

  • Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 4
  • Canadian high school diploma equivalent
  • Recent caregiving work experience
  • Full-time home care job offer in Canada

Benefits:

  • Permanent residency upon arrival
  • Expanded job opportunities: Work for organizations providing temporary/part-time care to semi-independent or recovering individuals.

Why is this significant?

Canada's aging population needs more caregivers. These programs make it easier for skilled caregivers to immigrate by offering permanent residency and work flexibility.

Important Note:

The official launch date and full details (application process, complete eligibility criteria) are coming soon from IRCC.

What you can do now:

  1. Improve your English/French: Take a language assessment test to gauge your current level and explore resources to improve if needed (preparation classes).
  2. Gather documents: Start collecting documents proving your education and caregiving work experience.
